A Message from Our Founder
For more than 20 years, I have had the privilege of working alongside individuals and families navigating mental health challenges, trauma, substance use, and recovery. During that time, I have witnessed something extraordinary again and again: when people are given access to the right care, the right resources, and the right support, healing can transform lives.
I have also witnessed the other side of that reality.
Too many people know that they need help but simply cannot afford it. Having insurance does not always mean having access to care. High deductibles, copayments, limited provider networks, inadequate reimbursement, and services that are excluded from insurance coverage can leave individuals and families with few realistic options. At the same time, there remains a shortage of professionals with the advanced training and experience necessary to address complex trauma, substance use disorders, and other specialized behavioral health needs.
These challenges can become even greater for those whose lives are dedicated to serving others. Military members and veterans, first responders, nurses and healthcare professionals, educators, therapists, and other helping professionals often experience demands, responsibilities, and traumatic exposures that are difficult to understand without specialized knowledge. Those who spend their lives caring for, protecting, teaching, and serving others deserve somewhere to turn when they need care themselves.
Healing Alliance Foundation was created because I believe we can do better.
I also believe that healing should not be confined to what an insurance policy is willing to cover. Traditional mental health treatment, substance use treatment, and appropriate medical care can be essential components of recovery, but overall wellness may involve much more. Depending on an individual's needs and the recommendations of qualified professionals, complementary and integrative services may provide additional opportunities to support physical, emotional, and mental wellbeing.
Services such as acupuncture, massage therapy, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, red light therapy, IV therapies, NAD+ services, wellness education, and other emerging or complementary approaches are often outside traditional insurance benefits. While these services are not substitutes for appropriate medical or behavioral healthcare and the evidence supporting individual approaches varies I believe people should have opportunities to explore appropriate options with qualified professionals without finances being the only factor determining what is available to them.
But our vision extends beyond helping one person receive one service.
We want to strengthen the entire community of healing.
That means helping individuals afford care. It means investing in specialized training so professionals can better serve the people who depend on them. It means providing resources to organizations already doing meaningful work. It means bringing businesses, healthcare providers, nonprofits, schools, public safety agencies, veteran organizations, and community leaders together rather than working in isolation.
When we help one person access treatment, we can change a life. When we help a professional develop greater expertise, that knowledge can touch hundreds of lives. When we strengthen a community organization or create a new partnership, the impact can reach people we may never personally meet.
That is the kind of impact Healing Alliance Foundation was created to make.
My vision is simple, even if the challenge before us is not: no one should have to choose between pursuing healing and protecting their livelihood. Financial circumstances should not determine who has access to quality care, specialized expertise, or opportunities for greater wellness.
We are here to help bridge those gaps, to provide hope where options have become limited, resources where finances have become a barrier, and connections where people have struggled to find a path forward.
Healing Alliance Foundation is just beginning, but the need is already here. With the support of donors, professionals, businesses, and community partners who share this vision, we have an opportunity to build something much larger than any one organization.
Together, we can remove barriers. We can strengthen those who serve. We can invest in healthier communities. And most importantly, we can help make healing possible for people who might otherwise go without.
Access to Care. Strength for Those Who Serve.
